Whether your primary aim is a ski and snowboard vacation, or it’s just something you’d like to fit in on your next trip, Camas County has several fantastic options. When staying in Fairfield, Idaho, visitors have a terrific mountain just a short drive away, as well as another excellent resort within an hour.
Soldier Mountain is located a mere 12 miles north of Fairfield and offers over 15 runs within its 1150 acres. Families can find lessons, rentals and explore the nine green slopes offered. Those looking for more of a challenge can attempt the twelve black diamond slopes. During the off-season the mountain has fantastic mountain biking and hiking trails, and camp sites.
For those who enjoy the peace and serenity of the backcountry, our area will definitely not dissapoint. Soldier Mountain has thousands upon thousands of acres of backcountry terrain accessible by cross country skis, snowshoes, or even snowmobile trails. Many locals catch a ride with a snowmobiling friend to the tops of mountain ridges and then ski or snowboard back down to the bottom. Couch Summit is an excellent area to do this in.
Soldier Mountain Ski Area also offers single lift tickets (Currently around $10 per person) that will drop you off at the top of the mountain. From there the hike is much shorter to access the huge bowls coming down from the Soldier Mountain Ridge.
Snow cat skiing is also popular in the area and is sometimes offered by Soldier Mountain. Please visit their website for more information on booking a group snow cat skiing tour.
