Little City of Rocks is not technically in Camas County, but it is such an amazing place (and so close), we thought it was worth mentioning. Located north of Gooding, Idaho on highway 46, Little City of Rocks is an almost unknown location to most Idahoans – which is why it is such a special place.
Little City of Rocks (not to be confused with “City of Rocks” in Southern Idaho) is a huge area great for hiking, biking climbing and bouldering. Find yourself among ancient hoodoos rock formations that are both beautiful and eerie at the same time. In the spring time there are tons of streams and waterfalls to be found, and amazing off trail hikes and boulerding opportunities around every corner. Don’t forget to bring your camera if you come! This area is truly one of a kind and something you will want to keep a record of to refer back to often. At 5,875 acres (2,400 of which contain rock formations), you’ll certainly have plenty of room to roam why you check out this awesome spot.
From Fairfield, head east on US-20 for 4 miles, then go south on ID-46 for about 18 miles. Look for a sign on the west side of the highway for “Little City of Rocks”. Once you pull off on to the dirt road, follow the signs straight until you reach the trailhead. It’s about a 30 minute drive from Fairfield.
